Freshness Dating NEW We are now using USE BY dating on the eggs. The USE BY date is 45 days from the date the egg was laid. Rose Acre Farms is the first egg producer in the United States to provide freshness dating on eggs! Rose Acre Farms has pioneered a new way of dating eggs to insure that only the freshest eggs reach the consumer. Rose Acres has always processed eggs produced by our hens the same day they were laid. However, there was no way consumers could know how fresh the eggs really were. New Rose Acre "USE BY" dating of each egg insures honest freshness. The process involves inkjet printing each egg after it is washed and candled with a U.S.D.A. approved vegetable based food grade ink with a date of 45 days after the egg was laid. This dating we believe sets a new standard of freshness for consumers who demand the freshest eggs possible. To have the freshest and best tasting eggs possible, we start with only the finest grains grown by local area farmers. By using only locally grown grains, we are assured of getting the best corn and soybeans and other grains used in our feed. Then we custom mill the grains ourselves right on our farm to insure freshness. Fresh feed makes a happy chicken, and a happy chicken makes a beautiful egg. How can you tell the date the eggs were produced? Most states require a "Julian" date. The Julian date is the numeric date of the year that the eggs were cartoned. Eggs that were cartoned on January 1 would have a 1, eggs cartoned on December 31 would have a 365, the 365th day of the year. On our egg cartons this number is usually next to our federal farm number which is a 6 digit number.
